Santa Barbara High School Football Hell Weeks

This August I had the opportunity and pleasure of working with the Santa Barbara High School football program. I am truly pleased to say that my time with the SBHS coaching staff was probably the best experience I’ve had with a coaching staff from any sport at any level. The coaches were open and trusting to turn the reigns of all the Strength, Performance and Conditioning work over to my staff and me. Rare. Aside from that their communication with myself and coaching staff was excellent. Their desire to do what was best for their team(s) and begin the building process (during a rebuilding year for their program) of developing safe and efficacious training practices is truly admirable. I know that this season is going to be a long haul for them but am quite certain that with the desire and concern for doing what is best for their program, they will quickly be where they desire to be.

Hats off to Coaches Jaime Melgoza, Doug Caines, Sean Simms, Char Vandaele (ATC), and all of the other coaches whose names I’ve missed.

Chex Snack Mix Delight

2 cups Corn Chex cereal
2 cups Wheat Chex cereal
2 cups Rich Chex cereal
1 cup salted mixed nuts
2 cups pretzels
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
4 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
2- 0.53 ounce packages Mandarin Orange SPARK™ Energy Drink powder

Combine all ingredients except SPARK™ in 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Mix to blend flavorings. Heat in 200 degree F oven 30 to 40 minutes to blend flavors. Remove from oven. While cooling, sprinkle on SPARK. Stir to blend. When cool, store in airtight container until ready to serve. Makes 10 cups.

Berry Sugar Cookies + M&Ms

1 (1 lb. 1.5 oz. ) package sugar cookie mix
2 (2.08 oz.) packages AdvoCare Berry Meal Replacement Shake powder
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 egg
2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup mini M&Ms

Combine cookie mix and shake powder in bowl. Stir to blend. Add butter, eggs and water. Mix well. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Top each cookie with several M&Ms. Bake as directed on cookie mix package. Makes 36 cookies.
